I work in the Implementation Department at Carmen and for the majority of my time here, just over a year, I've been working with the Alitalia Crew Assignment Project on implementing a solution to Alitalia's short-haul training problems. I regularly talk to clients and visit them on-site nearby Rome to test the solution. In my spare time I like to read - mostly science fiction and comics, listen to music; wander around the internet and occasionally indulge in live role-play (although only when I'm in the UK!).

I'm from a small town in Northern England about an hour from Manchester, where I studied at University for a BSc in Artificial Intelligence for 3 years. Working at Carmen is the first job I've had outside academia. I previously worked full-time for two summers at the University writing AI labs for first-year and MSc students.

Why Carmen?
My personal aim in looking for work was to leave academia and start working for a real company solving real world problems and feeling that I was producing something useful. Certainly one of the most tempting things about Carmen was the mix of nationalities that work here and the opportunity to visit clients and see what I worked on being used in real life. Since I've been here I can state that I really enjoy the working environment: friendly people, spacious offices and the ability to have flexible working hours when required.
