Carmen Systems AB and Bortz Media & Sports Group, Inc. have produced the schedule for the Swedish Hockey League season 2005/2006 by using their scheduling software tool and consulting expertise within logistical support and resource allocation.
Arthur Steiker, Managing Director of Bortz Media & Sports Group said, “Our companies have jointly been providing scheduling services to major professional sports leagues including the NHL and NBA,” Mr Steiker said. “One of the challenging aspects of creating the Swedish Hockey League schedule is to maintain a balance between travel, sequence of opponents and avoiding extended home stands or road trips.”
Carmen Systems' CEO, Per Norén, added, “The complexity and components managed within the Swedish league, such as traveling, arena availability, and broadcasting constraints, closely mirror those of the NHL, even if there are fewer games played. The optimization tool that we have created makes it much easier for the Swedish Hockey League in creating a fair competitive schedule which improves the travel and weekend balance.”
