Controlling balance, to ensure that supply of crew
meets demand, is a priority for all of the transport industry. There are
short, mid, and long-term aspects relating to this and transport operators
generally divide and manage planning processes in a number of different
ways.
The best way is to do client specific projects that focus on solving each
problem encountered in a step by step process.
With extensive experience and access to different software modules it
is often not necessary to start from scratch when we approach a problem.
Being a part of Carmen allows us to see and understand how manpower planning
relates to the pairing and rostering processes within an airline. Our
ambition is not only to develop the systems, but also to understand the
pros and cons of different ways of working with manpower planning. There
are too many great solutions around that don't fit anywhere!
Carmen Consulting is experienced in analyzing a business problem by finding
the real issues in an operation, and then continuing the work by going
to the next step where a system is specified, designed, and implemented.
It takes advanced technical skills along with experience in optimization,
modelling and a keen interest in business problems to effectively deliver
a system.
We have been working a lot with the rail industry on optimal freight car
distribution, analyzing the cost structure within a railway and interfacing
a freight car distribution optimizer with a traffic simulation system.
We have applied some of this experience to Carmen's Deutsche Bahn project
where we have been responsible for solving the problem of inconsistent
and incomplete timetable, locomotive and wagon data. We have built a solution
that takes every relevant input and automatically corrects or reports
all inconsistencies before it is imported to the Carmen Pairing and Rostering
systems.
