DESCARTES - Decision Support for Integrated Aircraft and Crew Recovery on the Day of Operations (January 2000 - December 2002)

The Descartes project aimed at designing and producing a decision support tool for the management of disruption(s) by integrated crew, aircraft, and passenger recovery on the day of operations. The expected benefits from using the tool were: more efficient disruption management with the customer focus, pro-active management of disruptions and faster recovery from irregular operations.

By the end of the project in December 2002, a prototype version of the integrated system had been developed and accepted by experienced operations controllers and proven to be operational. For Carmen, the launch of dedicated solvers for crew, fleet and passenger recovery represents an important step towards providing an integrated disruption management tool. These building blocks are now being used to create an integrated Day of Operations system.
